INE CCIE Bootcamp Review

I am writing this INE ccie bootcamp review the week after completing the 10 day CCIE bootcamp in R&S with Brian Dennis in London Feb 2012

If you are looking for a CCIE bootcamp in your final preparations for the lab I cannot recommend this one highly enough.

For those of you who know Brian Dennis you will know he is a 5 x CCIE and a Cisco dynamo.

This is not your average course with a small lecture and some practice labs and another small lecture. This bootcamp is 9 hours+ per day of Brian on the command line going through complex scenarios and troubleshooting that you will not find in INE’s training materials.

Brian does not believe in wasting your time teaching you something that is also available in any of their materials that you already have access to or can do any evening in the hotel or after the bootcamp.

The day starts at 9am with a bit of humour, there was a good mix of students from all over Europe, and spirits were high, it is also really great to be in a room with other students who want to be there and are all focused on the end goal. The CCIE Lab!

All the teaching is direct from a full CCIE rack mixed in with very good explanations of the technology and what each specific topic is going to cover.

To get the most out of this bootcamp you need to be quite advanced in your studies, this is not the place to be learning ospf for first time.

There will be a lot of note taking and if you can keep up configuration along with Brian, but the best approach I found for this bootcamp was to just take notes and pay attention, the material is coming so fast that if you stop to try something you can miss something.

Brian really understands the technologies to the point of showing you how things really work, showing you things you didn’t know you didn’t know and also exactly what a command really does when you type it.

There is also an in depth look at the Cisco Documentation, showing you what material you need to know and also explaining in great depth some items that are not documented very well.

The location of the bootcamp was a hotel in central London which made access to the venue very easy for the overseas students. The training room was very spacious with a view over the sights of London.

Most days would run to about 7pm after which some students would go back to their hotel for more studying. Some of us would meet up for something to eat and then back to the hotel to read up the notes you made during the day.

Another unappreciated element of the CCIE bootcamp is the amount of info you get from the other students. For most of us studying for the CCIE lab it is a very lonely journey as you tend not to meet many other people who are travelling the same journey. Being able to meet up with other students was a great chance to compare study methods, what you use to study, so you have a CCIE Rack or do you use Dynamips / GNS3. There was a mix of all and I learnt a lot from the other students.

The training was split over 2 x 5 day blocks with many students including myself staying for the weekend to catch up on all the material covered during the week.

The view from the training room was amazing but there was really not much time for sightseeing!

So to summarise if you are looking for a CCIE bootcamp  I can highly recommend the INE Bootcamp.
