How to double your CCIE Study time

Home » CCIE Certification

For those of you starting out on your journey to the CCIE certification, you may be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of material you have to get through.

Now there have always been methods to study faster and one of the main ones was always speed reading, now this may be great for some or for reading a story but for me trying read faster than my brain can process never worked.

I like watching videos, I always have a few ATC videos from INE or some Cisco Live presentations on my phone which I can watch at any time I have 15 minutes. I don’t really watch TV as it annoys me.

But I have discovered a great tip for watching videos on my laptop.

First you need to get a copy of VLC Player from here – www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

VLC has a neat option where you can speed up the playback speed.

Once you have started your ATC video click on Playback>Speed>Faster

This will play the video back at nearly double speed, at first it takes a bit of getting used to but after a few minutes it seems very normal.

If you go back and play it at normal speed – they really seem slow and Brians voice does seem very slow, even though it was normal to you a few minutes ago.

I wish I had discovered this little tip 2 years ago as I think I could have saved myself about 200 hours of video time.

Anyway try it out and let me know how you get on.

I need to get back to labs – my 2nd attempt at the CCIE Lab Exam is in 40 days time.

Check out the rest of my CCIE Blog for more CCIE study tips.

Great tip roger. I found an Android App that supports increased playback speeds called Dice Player. I can only manage 1.5x so far but I will try increasing it over the coming days.

I have now settled on 1.3x as a comfortable playback speed.

    Hi Roger,
that’s a great tip, at 1.3x I agree it is still very comfortable to follow Brian it even seems better than normal speed !

Be strong and good luck for your exam.
