INE CCIE Workbooks

This short post will provide a CCIE Workbook review for the materials I am using to prepare for my CCIE in R&S. I had decided a while ago following advice from another engineer to pick one vendor and stick with them. So after going through all the options I decided to use INE. They have 4 main CCIE Workbooks. Vol I is your introduction to all the technologies and is called the Advanced Technology Labs. Vol II are 20 full scale labs, including troubleshooting, Vol III are Advanced foundation labs and consist of 10 4 hour labs and finally Vol IV is advanced troubleshooting.

Workbook Volume I

From INE “The CCIE Routing & Switching Lab Workbook Volume I consists of nearly 600 hands-on, individually-focused, advanced technology labs that present topics in an easy to follow, goal-oriented step-by-step approach.”

There is probably too much info in this workbook! Coming in at 2614 pages it is a hefty document but does contain all the technologies you need to know. I initially started working through this from start to finish but about half way through started to dip into Vol II and then coming back to Vol I to brush up on things I were not clear on. There are some very good references in the Vol II labs pointing you back to Vol I which is really nice.

Workbook Volume II

From INE “Full Scale Practice Labs – provides 20 detailed, full-scale labs similar to the actual CCIE lab exam, which follow a structured design covering all necessary topic domains on the configuration portion of the CCIE lab exam.”

These are really great, 20 full scale labs with a graded difficulty from easier than the real lab to much harder than the real lab! These labs are really over preparing you for the CCIE Lab and there are some questions that will really make you think, all good solid learning though and a great way to start getting used to an 8 hour lab. They also contain troubleshooting scenarios. Best to do these on graded labs as it makes it much easier to load up the configs.

Workbook Volume III

From INE “Advanced Foundation Labs – contains 10 four hour labs designed to refine your configuration skills on the core technologies used in the CCIE lab exam.”

To date I have not started these but looking through them they contain 10 four hour labs which you can use to refine your speed, at this stage you should have the technologies sorted and are focussing on your time management, speed, and finding better / quicker ways of doing things – remember notepad is your friend!

Workbook Volume IV

From INE “Advanced Troubleshooting – contains 10 scenarios designed exclusively to prepare you for the new Troubleshooting part of the CCIE Routing & Switching exam. ”

This is a workbook that you need to be using, the troubleshooting section of the CCIE Lab Exam is where I am hearing most candidates are failing, so if you are going to pass you need to master troubleshooting. The real crunch with this is the time. 10 tickets in 2 hours is not much time! You need to be using this workbook a lot.

Final Thoughts

All the INE CCIE Workbooks for R&S are well written and constantly updated, if you purchase the workbooks you will continue to get free updates with their investment protection program.

The proof will be in the pudding and I will let you know how I go when I take my lab in October, for now I am really enjoying these workbooks and am learning daily.

    Man, i am from poor family and need help to study for the lab.

    Sadly I cannot send or sell you my materials. They are an investment I have made with INE and are not for sharing

    All I can say is your best resource is http://www.cisco.com and there is also some great info on http://www.gns3vault.com
    You need to be using GNS3 to practice, closer to your lab you will need access to physical racks for the switching.

    Hi roger,
    I really like the information you provided for the CCIE R&S. I just passed my CCNP last month and have start preparing for the CCIE lab exams. I’ve given my self about a year for the CCIE lab exams. I have started building my own real home CCIE lab using the recommendations equipment from INE.

    My questions is if I manage to build the full lab recommended my INE, will it be ok to cover all the CCIE lab workbook from volume 1 to 4?

    Dwamena,

    It depends on what routers you are buying, if they are all 2610′s then no, you really need an 1841 and a 3825 for PFR.
    And you need 3560 switches to practice all the features.

    If you can’t afford these then GNS3 is great for some of the routing stuff, but you will struggle with PFR and you can always rent some rack time to cover the 3560′s
